Whoopi Goldberg surprised everyone on ‘The View’ when she walked off the stage during a live episode this week. This happened because of the drama surrounding singer Miranda Lambert, who recently stopped her concert to tell fans to stop taking selfies. But don’t worry, Whoopi was just joking and didn’t really leave the show, even though some critics might have wanted her to. Videos of her walking off went viral as the co-hosts discussed the whole Miranda Lambert situation, leaving many critics hoping for some funny moments.
Miranda Lambert recently found herself in the middle of a big debate after she paused her concert to shout at some fans who were trying to take selfies. Tickets to see Miranda Lambert likely cost quite a bit, and it’s pretty normal for concert-goers to snap photos to post on social media or keep as memories. The hosts of ‘The View’ discussed what happened with Miranda Lambert, questioning whether she was right to stop the show to confront the fans or if it’s okay for people to take selfies during performances. The conversation got pretty heated, and at one point, Whoopi got up and walked toward the audience, saying, “I’m leaving y’all.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin, one of the co-hosts, tried to find a middle ground in the debate about Miranda Lambert’s recent controversy. She pointed out that Lambert shouldn’t be calling out fans who spent their hard-earned money to attend her concert, especially if they’re just taking selfies and not bothering anyone else. Whoopi Goldberg then jumped in, saying that taking selfies can be disrespectful. She mentioned, “They paid for their tickets and came to see her perform, so at least show a little respect… remember, she can see you just as much as you can see her.”
Sara Haines, another host, mentioned that the fans who got yelled at by Miranda Lambert were pretty close to the stage during the selfie moment. But does that really mean the famous singer should have shouted at them, interrupted the show, and made a big deal out of it? That’s something people can argue about, and Sunny Hostin suggested that Miranda Lambert might have been in the wrong, based on an article from Page Six that talked about Whoopi Goldberg’s walk-off.
Sunny Hostin was quoted by Page Six talking about the cost of VIP tickets at the concert where Miranda Lambert told someone off for taking selfies. She mentioned, “The VIP tickets they had were $757. If I spent that much, I’d be snapping selfies too, no doubt about it.” That’s a lot of money, and honestly, if I paid that much for a concert, I’d definitely want some pictures to remember it. For that price, I’d be taking as many photos as I wanted, and no way would Miranda Lambert stop me! I totally get the idea of wanting to capture the moment, but I wouldn’t be taking selfies the whole time. There’s a time and place for everything. It’s all about finding the right moments to take pictures while still enjoying the show and living in the moment. Fans can totally have a great time without getting called out by a serious singer.
This is the exciting part! Sunny Hostin gets Whoopi Goldberg all fired up when Whoopi says that if people can’t stop snapping selfies, they should just “stay home.” Whoopi was trying to say that fans should pay more attention to the performer. Sunny then jumped in to defend her side of the Miranda Lambert discussion. But then, Whoopi surprised everyone by standing up, walking over to the audience, and taking a selfie with a fan to make her point. Did it convince anyone? You can be the judge of that.
