A baby’s birth is always a reason to celebrate, especially when it’s finally time to meet them in person after months of waiting. Even though ultrasounds let us see our babies in the belly, there is nothing better than holding them for the first time.
Babies often surprise us with the unique things about them, like cute dimples or a head full of hair. But the most surprising turn comes when the baby doesn’t look anything like its parents.
This is what happened to one family whose story went popular and made people wonder and speculate online. Read on to find out what happened…
Rachel is a cashier at the Tennessee Celina 52 Truck Stop. On February 17, she gave birth to her son Cash Jamal Buckman. What made people notice, though, was that Rachel and her fiancé, Paul Buckman, are both white, while Cash looks like he is black.
The truck stop posted a picture of the happy family on Facebook and wished Rachel well with her new baby.
“Congratulations to our cashier Rachel and her fiancé Paul Buckman on their baby Cash Jamal Buckman being [born] on Saturday at 6:18pm,” the post read.
But instead of positive responses, the post got comments that called into question Cash’s fatherhood, with some saying that Paul might not be the real father.
Because of the rumors, Celina 52 Truck Stop changed their post and said, “Yes, Paul is the father. Rachel has African American DNA in her which can skip generations and cause a child to be born with darker skin.”
They also said that Cash might have jaundice, which is typical in newborns, and ended the post with the words “Please be kind.”
Even after the truck stop gave an answer, questions and jokes kept going around online.
Someone wrote, “Congratulations!!! I AM sure he looks just like his dad. Where is he?”
“Definitely needs a DNA test; what if they accidentally mixed up the kiddos in the nursery?” said someone else.
At the same time, some people felt sorry for Paul. One person wrote, “I feel sorry for Paul, being duped like this is a whole new level of creep. Hopefully he’ll wise up.”
Rachel then decided to do something about it herself. To show her ancestry, she posted what she thought were her DNA results on Facebook.
“For the haters saying that I [don’t] have black DNA maybe this will clear it up straight from my ancestry DNA results !!!! NOW STOP slandering mine and my [fiancé] Paul Buckman name. he IS the father of Lil Cash,” she wrote.
But the jokes kept going, and many of them made fun of the situation and called the test results into question.
“That’s the strongest 1% I’ve ever seen … this looks like a job for Maury,” someone said.
Another user with similar DNA chimed in with: “I have that too … and both my babies still look Irish as a boiled potato.”
The story went viral on social media very quickly, with thousands of people sharing their thoughts and emotions. TikTok users also joined the chat and added their own funny takes on what was going on.
As rumors kept going around, Celina 52 Truck Stop said that they would be giving their workers polygraph and DNA tests. There was more anger after hearing the news, and many people are now eagerly waiting for the investigation to end.
Even though no one knows the truth, this shocking turn of events has caught a lot of people’s attention, making a normal birth announcement into a worldwide hit.
